The Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center submits approximately twelve grant applications a year and receives funding from an average of four per year. All of the grants received by NNMRAC over the past six years were awarded in support of the After-School Children’s Arts Program, the Summer Arts Academy and the Española Valley Children’s Choir. The $31,000 grant from the National Walmart Foundation is no exception. The photograph on the cover of the newsletter was taken in the newly renovated Española Walmart. Representatives from the Walmart Foundation presented the check to the NNMRAC Board of Trustees and representatives from the City of Española. Among those present included NNMRAC President Gabriela Silva, NNMRAC Executive Director John D. Werenko and City Manager Mark Trujillo. In 2016 NNMRAC received grants from the Santa Fe Community Foundation, United Way of Northern New Mexico, NM Arts of the Cultural Affairs Department of the State of New Mexico and a private donation from Juan Gabriel the Mexican impresario. NNMRAC Board Member Nanette Valerio was instrumental in facilitating a contribution from Eric P. Serna and his wife Barbara M. Serna.
